Announcing the April 15th 2012 CicLAvia Route

CicLAvia has finalized the route for the upcoming April 15th 2012 CicLAvia event. It's the same asombroso route as CicLAvia traveled on Sunday October 9th 2011.

It includes the basic 10.10.10 route through East Hollywood, Koreatown, Westlake, Downtown L.A., Little Tokyo, and Boyle Heights - plus the new extensions that premiered last time: north to El Pueblo, and south to Fashion District and Central Avenue. There will be some cool new features - keep your RSS tuned to the CicLAvia blog for details.

We were looking to potentially expand to new areas; Bogota does 80 miles every Sunday! We're also looking to maintain a fiscally-sustainable tradition... so we ended up going with just what's tried and true for now.

We're hoping to expand a little more for the October 14th 2012 event. Under consideration are connections to:

  • Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights
  • Chinatown
  • extending further into South L.A., possibly to Exposition Park 
Under a grant from the County Department of Public Health, CicLAvia is providing technical assistance to additional L.A. County cities to examine possibilities for hosting new CicLAvia events. These wouldn't necessarily initially be connected to the central route we've done before. The new cities that we're working with are: Lynwood, Pomona, San Fernando, and South Gate. These cities are looking at possible routes and coming up with project plans - hopefully one or more of them will begin a CicLAvia tradition in 2013.

And there's a few more promising possibilities under negotiation that we're not announcing just yet.
