IF YOU PLAN ON WALKING AT CICLAVIA
All pedestrians are welcome at CicLAvia. You may either walk in the streets to the right of the bicyclists or on the sidewalks. If you’re in the street, stay to the right and move to the sidewalk if you feel that there are too many bicycles in the street at any given time. Do you plan on organizing a group of walkers and want more people to join in? Send us your “feeder walk” and where you’re meeting. We’ll post it on our site.
Here are some ideas to enhance your day:
1) Visit businesses and restaurants along the route and shop and eat local!
2) Enjoy the programming we’ve laid out for the day.
5) Visit the Grand Park Pedestrian Zone and take part in the many activities available that day. As always, there will be much to do for the younger crowd.
6) Combine a Metro subway ride with your walk and enjoy more of the route. For more information, see Metro.
7) Make sure to review our Rules of the Road document before you attend.
IF YOU PLAN ON RIDING A BIKE AT CICLAVIA
There will be plenty of bike parking at the hubs along the route.
Have a problem with your bike? Stop by any one of the five hubs along the route to see a bike technician… for free! However, please make sure to service your bike prior to coming to CicLAvia. Our free bike repair is only for minor repairs: tire pumping, popped chains, etc. Please do not come to CicLAvia expecting to get a full service repair.
Please note that there will not be bike rentals available at hubs on the October 6 CicLAvia route. However, you may rent a bike from vendors in the vicinity. Check out our Bike Rentals section on our website before coming to CicLAvia. We encourage you to pick up your rental bike on Saturday, as bike rentals near the CicLAvia route tend to sell out quickly. Plan ahead!
IF YOU PLAN ON TAKING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO CICLAVIA
Please familiarize yourself with Metro’s guidelines here: http://www.metro.net/bikes/
IF YOU’RE TAKING YOUNG CHILDREN TO CICLAVIA
We strongly recommend that children who are beginner cyclists walk instead of ride. CicLAvia is not a place to learn to ride a bike and can be intimidating for children who do not possess moderate cycling skills. Make sure to check out the Kids Zone, where children can practice safe cycling and pedestrian activity.
If your children will be riding a bike on CicLAvia day, please make sure they stay to the right if they are going slow. And please encourage them to pay attention to other riders and communicate before they get on or off the route.
IF YOU’RE DISABLED AND WANT TO ENJOY CICLAVIA
CicLAvia is for everyone, not just those on foot, bike or skateboard. CicLAvia welcomes wheelchairs in the streets or on the sidewalk. Please stay to the right of the road and follow pedestrian traffic.
Motorized vehicles are not allowed at CicLAvia except for motorized scooters with a handicapped placard. Please note: If your motorized scooter requires registration with the Department of Motor Vehicles, it cannot be on the CicLAvia route.
IF YOU’RE AN ARTIST AND WANT TO PARTICIPATE AT CICLAVIA
CicLAvia loves artists, of course! If you are making art along the route, we ask that you stay on the sidewalk and keep at least a four foot clearance for other sidewalk users. Your best bet is to enjoy some of the open spaces along the route to create your project. Please be mindful of your belongings and make sure to clean up anything you bring.
IF YOU’RE PART OF A GROUP
We love groups at CicLAvia. Whether you're riding together as part of a bicycle club, walking together for a company outing or sharing information about your non-profit, CicLAvia offers a great chance to spend time together.
Some groups make special shirts for the day, others carry signs and others simply enjoy the sights and sounds of CicLAvia together. As with individuals, no registration is required and you are wecome to enter or exit the route at any point.
If you want to distribute materials to participants along the route, you are welcome to do so, but you cannot do so from a stationary position within the route. You must keep moving. Please do not distract bicyclists and create a safety hazard, however. Please be mindful of the environment and clean up any of your materials that you see along the route.
If you want to set up a table on the route and distribute information to participants, you must secure permission from a property owner along the route and follow the city’s guidelines. You may not block the sidewalk.
IF YOU’RE A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER
There are several ways to promote your business for CicLAvia. We have several suggestions on our business page here. To encourage CicLAvia participants to stop by your business on the day of CicLAvia, you can also offer a discount to participants and have it featured for free at the Metro CicLAvia Destination Discounts webpage. For details, email DestinationDisounts@metro.net or call 213.922.5632.
IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR SOME GREAT SHOPPING AND DINING DEALS
Show your valid TAP card, Metro employee ID, or LA County employee ID at participating Metro Destination Discounts businesses and save on food, merchandise and more along the CicLAvia route.
You can also save 15% on CicLAvia T-shirts and collectibles at the merchandise tent at the Mariachi Plaza Hub by showing your TAP, Metro employee or LA County employee card.
