Explore LA: The giving-back edition!

There’s so much to love about LA, and virtually endless ways to explore and enjoy without opening your wallet. Every week we put together a menu of free and fun activities happening around town. In the spirit of thankfulness, we decided to assemble a platter of opportunities to give back to our vibrant city and region while you make new friends and perhaps see a part of town you’ve never visited.

The Downtown Women’s Center - https://www.downtownwomenscenter.org/

The Downtown Women’s Center focuses on assisting women experiencing homelessness in greater Los Angeles and aids in getting them on a path to personal stability.

826LA - http://826la.org/

826LA supports students writing skills, and endeavors to “help teachers inspire their students to write.” They provide tutoring and workshops to challenge, engage, and “ultimately strengthen each student’s power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in their individual voice.”

Tree People - https://www.treepeople.org/

TreePeople inspires Angelenos to take personal responsibility for the urban environment and “envisions a Los Angeles with enough tree canopy, healthy soil, and clean local water.”  Volunteer to help care for LA’s urban forest, local mountains and bring sustainable solutions home.

One Voice LA - https://www.onevoice-la.org/

The mission of One Voice is to provide services that lift families out of poverty and provide avenues for the community to become involved and aid families in need.

APLA Health - https://aplahealth.org/

APLA Health serves low-income and LGBT communities affected by and living with HIV through assistance with housing and healthcare. They also focus on preventing the spread of HIV with education and by bolstering “efforts to find solutions that lead to the cure for HIV.”

Los Angeles Regional Food Bank - https://www.lafoodbank.org/

The Food Bank distributes food and other essentials to children, seniors, families and other individuals in need.

The Midnight Mission - https://www.midnightmission.org/

The Midnight Mission focuses on aiding individuals experiencing homelessness and “offers paths to regain self-sufficiency.” They provide emergency services, 12-step recovery, family living, job training, education, and workforce development programs.

As a nonprofit, CicLAvia relies heavily on volunteers and has many opportunities for you to help make the upcoming Heart of LA event smooth and safe for everyone.
