On CicLAvia Sundays we collectively alter the rhythm of our streets for a day from hustle and bustle to slow flow. It’s why we’re thrilled to have the Mid City-based non-profit Street Poets join us again as a community partner for our June 30 event, CicLAvia—Mid City Meets Pico Union. We make a natural team: where CicLAvia taps into the transformational power of open streets, Street Poets harnesses the power of poetry and music.
What started as a poetry workshop in a LA County juvenile probation program, Street Poets has become a highly collaborative, arts education based non-profit organization harnessing the healing power of poetry, music, and ritual to save lives, create community and transform culture.
This Sunday, we’re excited to present Street Poets’ Our Village as a standalone activation point midway along the route at the headquarters of another great nonprofit, OpenAir. In collaboration with other community organizations, Our Village will offer workshops, live readings and open-mic time.
Like always, we’re proud to team up with a whole range of community partners to fill the route with fun, all-ages activities. Plan your CicLAvia Sunday with this guide to all the activities, from Our Village and AARP’s Inspiration Zone to the National Parks Parks Service 25’ rock climbing wall, LACMA’s drop-in art workshop, and more!
See you soon in the car-free streets!
