CicLAvia - Culver City Meets Venice

Culver City and Venice will be the coolest spots of the summer when CicLAvia returns to the Westside for the first time since 2013. CicLAvia – Culver City Meets Venice Presented by Metro takes place from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9.

The route will be a six-mile variation of the previous CicLAvia Westside route, allowing participants to explore more of Culver City’s charming neighborhoods, eclectic businesses and delicious restaurants, as well as connect with such Westside treasures as the Mar Vista Farmers Market, Abbot Kinney and Venice Beach.

The Culver City Meets Venice route is made possible with a grant from Metro Los Angeles.

**Allow yourself enough time to return to the Metro or your car safely while streets are still closed to car traffic. Streets begin to re-open to vehicles promptly at 4pm.**

New to CicLAvia? Here are four things you need to know for August 9:

It's FREE!
It's not a race and you don't need a bike to participate. You can walk or skate to your heart's content.
There's no beginning or end. You can start anywhere and go as far or as short as you want.
The flow of participants goes both ways, just like regular traffic.

Time Out Los Angeles Guide

CicLAvia pedals its way back onto the Westside with a 6-mile route between Culver City and Venice. The last time the bike-friendly fest made its way to the beach, it started all the way over in Downtown LA. You'll find a much more manageable route this time around, and though a decent chunk is residential, there's still plenty to see and do in historic Downtown Culver City, through easygoing Mar Vista, near posh Abbot Kinney and along eclectic Venice Beach.

The Militant Angeleno's Epic Militant CicLAvia Tour 4.1

So we're already nearly 5 years into the CicLAvia thing, haven't we had enough already?

OF COURSE NOT!

Just when we got over the last CicLAvia, along comes the XIVth edition of America's largest open streets event (Oh you know it, baby), and the third of four this year (But wait a minute, the last Epic Militant CicLAvia Tour was number 10.0, why is this one 4.1? You might ask. Well, The Militant categorizes his CicLAvia routes into unique versions of routes, and since this route is basically a modification of the fourth unique route from April 2013 (The legendary 17-mile "To The Sea" edition), The Militant categorizes Sunday's route as 4.1. Got it?). But even though this one is but a slight change from the Epic Venice Boulevard Route, there's a lot more new sights to see, especially along Washington Boulevard/Washington place, plus some locales he forgot to add during the 4.0 posting. Anyways, you know the drill, Share this link on your Facebooks and Twitters, visit the sights yourselves -- and if you do, Tweet with the hashtag, #EpicCicLAviaTour to stroke The Militant's ego and make him feel like his several days of staying up late at night to research and write all this was worth his while. Sign up for a free Los Angeles Public Library card and keep an eye for the roaming Book Bike. Free books will be given to people with library cards.

Near The Hub: Mar Vista Farmers' Market on Grand View Blvd celebrates its 9th anniversary with Birthdaypalooza from 9am-3pm. The market will feature live music, prepared food vendors and 50 farmers. Join in the fun and participate in a corn shucking, seed spitting or egg toss contest.

Venice Hub

Cool off with a paleta from Artesana Pops.

Near The Hub: The beach! Go for an ocean swim and check out the Venice Boardwalk. Snap a photo in front of the CicLAvia mural on the Venice Art Walls at 1800 Oceanfront Walk.

Getting to the Route and Parking

Crossing the Route

Cars can cross the route at various major intersections (see map). Los Angeles Police, Culver City Police and CicLAvia volunteers are posted at the car-crossing points to assist with the flow of participant and vehicle traffic.

Resident Parking Restrictions

Cars parked on the route on CicLAvia day will be towed. No cars will be allowed to enter or exit the route during the event hours, and any driveway connecting to the CicLAvia route will be blocked. Check for posted parking restrictions on your street before the event. Additional street parking near the route may be restricted.

We encourage you to participate, even if it’s just by greeting people who pass by your front door. This is a great opportunity to engage potential customers who, even if they don't shop on CicLAvia day, may return time and time again.

Customer engagement ideas include:

Plan on being open the day of the event
Make your storefront visible with signs, banners and sandwich boards
Bring your business outside. If you have permission to use the sidewalk in front of your business, feel free to bring products, music or seating outside. (Please note: under the terms of CicLAvia’s permit, no stationary objects are allowed in the street itself.)
Advertise your business before the event. To encourage participants to stop by your business on the day of the event, you can offer a CicLAvia special or discount. Metro will list your business for FREE on their website. Send the name of your business, discount offer, website link, and address to [email protected] by July 31st. Please limit text to 140 characters with spaces.
Help get the word out in advance. Put up a CicLAvia flyer or give CicLAvia flyers to your customers. Contact [email protected] for a link to a flyer download.

Event Times

Event Times From 9:00am–4:00pm on Sunday, August 9th, 2015, the 6 mile route of CicLAvia streets will be closed to all cars. Streets will be fully closed to cars no later than 8:00am and no vehicles or on-street parking will be allowed on the route until streets are re-opened to cars at approximately 5:30pm.

Feeder Rides and Walks

A feeder ride or walk is when a group of people meets up and ride or walk to the CicLAvia route together. Feeders are not sponsored or produced by CicLAvia. Many feeders will depart before the streets are open to the public for walking and biking, so bike riders may be riding alongside cars. Please wear helmets and stress safety amongst your groups!
