Local Gems: Melrose Ave 2025

Join us for the last CicLAvia Sunday of the 2025 season—and our 64th CicLAvia Sunday since 2010! Netflix x CicLAvia—Melrose Ave: Stranger Things 5 One Last Ride is on Sunday, November 23rd, from 9am to 3pm. 

Gear up for the ride by dressing as your inner Hawkins hero (or foe) for this immersive experience. Dust off your denim, neon, and retro clothes as Melrose transforms into an ‘80s supernatural adventure! Melrose Ave is home to some of Los Angeles’ most vibrant communities, unique history, fashion, and stunning art. This CicLAvia Sunday offers a chance to explore some of the MANY local gems in the area outside of a car.

Melrose Trading Post

Every Sunday since 1997, Fairfax High School’s parking lot transforms into the Melrose Trading Post, a lively open-air market filled with vintage fashion, art, music, and food. This community staple funds Fairfax High programs while bringing some of LA’s most unique vendors together. Stop by their booth at the Fairfax Hub for ticket giveaways! 

 

Fairfax High School

Fairfax High School has been a continued representation of central Los Angeles’ cultural diversity since 1924. Its alumni list includes actors, musicians, and change makers who shaped LA’s identity. 

 

Mural Alley/The Fame Yard

The Fame Yard is an ever-changing canvas for artistic expression. A perfect spot to stop by and grab a photo of the current set of murals, which often depict local heroes, celebrities, and nature. 

 

Matrix Theatre

Since 1977, the Matrix Theatre has been an institution for LA’s independent stage scene. With just 99 seats, it’s the kind of space where you can feel the energy between audience and actors. Over the years, it has hosted game-changing performances and spotlighted artists who went on to make their mark on both stage and screen.

 

Levi Ponce Mural

This vibrant mural by Levi Ponce, an alumnus of CSUN and a master of large-scale murals, is just across the street from the Fairfax Hub. This piece was created in collaboration with Foot Locker. Check it out and grab a picture to remember your CicLAvia Sunday experience! 

 

World of Vintage T-Shirts

With its bright pink storefront, World of Vintage T-Shirts is impossible to miss. Inside, rows of color-coded racks hold a seemingly infinite amount of vintage tees sorted by category, from pop culture to rare bands. Visit ahead of the event to find that just-right 80s tee and channel Stranger Things' iconic vibe. 

 

Locafella Loc Studio

Zephyr Theatre

Built in 1956, Zephyr Theater has been a consistent home for LA’s thriving performing arts. Over the years, it’s hosted everything from plays to stand-up comedy and music. 

 

Brooklyn Projects

The Groundlings Theatre & School

Comedy history can be found in these walls. Established in 1974, The Groundlings has launched the careers of countless Saturday Night Live legends. Catch an improv or sketch show to experience LA comedy in its purest form. 

 

Dazinger Studio

Completed in 1965 by modernist architect Frank Gehry, the Danziger Studio is a minimalist landmark of Los Angeles architecture. Once a creative workspace for photographers and artists, it remains a touchstone for design enthusiasts. 

 

Golden Apple Comics

Golden Apple has been a cornerstone of comic book culture in Los Angeles since 1979. Hosting legendary figures like Stan Lee, it remains a hub for collectors and casual fans alike. Stop by for their sidewalk sale during the event! 

 

David Flores Mural

Created by David Flores in 2014 and located on the wall of Tatsu Ramen, this untitled mural depicts a human and dragon. Stop by and grab some pictures! 

 

Wasteland

A vintage fashion institution, Wasteland offers curated racks of designer and retro finds. Its iconic statement pieces have defined the eclectic Melrose fashion scene. Swing through before the event to snag vintage threads and accessories for that perfect Hawkins fit or Upside Down cosplay.

 

Welcome to Melrose Mural

If you’re not looking up at the right moment, you might miss this beautiful “Welcome to Melrose” mural. While the artist and exact date of completion aren’t publicly documented, it’s definitely worth stopping by!  

 

John C. Fremont Branch Library

Built in 1927, this LA Public Library branch showcases classic Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. Tucked into the bustle of Melrose, it is a peaceful spot to explore, admire the intricate tilework, enjoy a book, and soak in a bit of local history.

 

The Hollywood Comedy

Paramount Pictures

One of the oldest film lots in the world, Paramount Pictures has been a creative engine for Hollywood since 1912. 

 

Raleigh Studios

Established in 1915, Raleigh Studios has hosted everyone from Charlie Chaplin to modern productions like Netflix’s Monster. It’s a living museum to Melrose’s deep history of film and entertainment. 

 

Alan Gordon Enterprises

A one-stop shop for anything your film production could need for over 70 years, Alan Gordon Enterprises has been a vital rental shop for Hollywood. On top of being a rental house, Alan Gordon has created innovative products for the film industry.

 

Hollywood Historic Hotel

Stephany Feury Studio Theatre

Conway Recording Studios

Behind the facade on Melrose is one of LA’s most legendary recording studios. Since the 1970s, Conway has hosted icons from Prince to Adele, shaping the playlists of generations. With lush private gardens and world-class acoustics, it continues to be a creative sanctuary for artists of all genres. 

 

Los Angeles Museum of Love

Part art installation, part emotional experience, the Los Angeles Museum of Love invites visitors to explore love through interactive exhibits. It’s the perfect place for couples or friends looking for a playful and introspective way to reflect on connection. 

 

The Stray Theater

A recent addition to Melrose’s creative landscape, The Stray Theater supports independent productions and up-and-coming performers. Its mission to make theater accessible, local, and alive fuels intimate, community-driven shows for a new generation of artists. 

 

The Activist Kitchen Creative Space

As a vibrant community art space and performance venue, The Activist Kitchen is where creativity and advocacy meet. With a rotating calendar of open mics, live music, comedy, and art shows, the Activist Kitchen gives local artists a platform to express and inspire.  

 

Ukrainian Culture Center

This center has been a gathering space for Los Angeles’ Ukrainian community since the 1960s. It hosts cultural festivals, performances, and community events that celebrate heritage and unity. The last day of their Ukrainian Film Festival (11/21-11/23) will take place on CicLAvia Sunday! 

Braille Institute

Founded in 1919, the Braille Institute empowers people with visual impairments through education, technology, and community programs. The Melrose campus remains one of LA’s most important centers for accessibility and lifelong learning.
