We're back for our fifth open street event of 2023, CicLAmini—North Hollywood! Join us on Sunday, September 17, from 9am - 3pm as we transform the streets of North Hollywood (NoHo) into a public park for the day. 

NoHo is known for its commitment to the arts, recreation, and local food. Check out this list of local gems to help plan out your day on and off the CicLAmini route! Special thanks to Council President Paul Krekorian’s Office (CD2) for welcoming all CicLAmini participants to North Hollywood and their support in planning and programming this event!

Local Businesses + Local Eats

Chokolatta

Blending the tastes of Mexico and Guatemala in one, Chokolatta is a quaint cafe that serves handmade chocolates, coffees, and more.

 

Groundwork Coffee
11275 Chandler Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601

Built into the North Hollywood Historic Train Depot as part of the restoration of this registered State Historic Landmark Building is Groundwork Coffee. They pride themselves in serving the commuters of NoHo in one of the city's busiest public transit routes between the Red Line and Orange Bus Line.

 

Hades Hot Chicken

Can you handle the heat? Swing by Hades Hot Chicken to try out their unique meals from Pain and Panic Fries to their Gyro Boxes.

 

Mucha! Comida Chapina

“Mucha” is a Guatemalan slang term to address a group of people. This restaurant strives to serve NoHo and visiting patrons the highest quality Guatemalan dishes in a consistent manner and have been doing so for many years now. 

 

Tamashii Ramen House
11024 Magnolia Blvd C, North Hollywood, CA 91601

“Tamashii” translated in English is “soul”. This ramen house has been serving soul comforting soups, bowls, and sushi to the community of NoHo since 2012. 

 

TEAPOP
5050 Vineland Ave, North Hollywood, CA 91601

TEAPOP is a hip boba spot located in the NoHo Arts District. They go beyond your average boba shop as they brew hand-crafted loose leaf tea, locally organic roasted coffee, and even have a large patio space to sit and enjoy your drinks.

 

The Iliad Bookshop
5400 Cahuenga Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601

With its unique architecture style, the Iliad Bookshop boasts its many accolades and massive collection of used books, specifically in literature and the arts. Despite a fire in late 2022 that damaged part of the building, the bookshop stands strong thanks to the community of North Hollywood.

 

Republic of Pie

Come by Republic of Pie for a slice of gourmet pie, freshly brewed coffee, and live music! Thanks to the cozy ambience from the reclaimed wood, this place will make you feel right at home.

 

Player One

Player One is open on CicLAvia Sunday from 5pm - 1:30am, stop by after the event for a drink and some retro 80s and 90s video games, music, and pinball machines!

 

Art + Architecture

El Portal Theater
5269 Lankershim Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601

Constructed in 1926 for Vaudeville and Silent Movies, the El Portal Theater has gone through many obstacles such as the Great Depression, four wars, and the Northridge Earthquake of 1994, yet it still stands tall to this day. The El Portal currently hosts live shows, art exhibits, and even hosts productions for film and tv.

 

Lankershim Arts Center
5108 Lankershim Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 91601

Located in the heart of the NoHo Arts District is another historical landmark. Constructed in 1939 with an art deco facade is the Lankershim Arts Center. Here you can find various art programs, theater shows, plays, art exhibits, and much more. Be sure to check out their facility as they will be having an open house during CicLAmini Sunday!

 

Chandler Murals
Chandler Blvd / Vineland Ave, North Hollywood, CA 91601

Starting at the intersection of Chandler Blvd and Vineland Ave are the Chandler Murals. Easy to miss from your car, this series of large scale artworks showcase the history and beauty of life in the San Fernando Valley. 

 

Laemmle NoHo 7
5240 Lankershim Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601

Laemmle Theaters was established in 1938, and Laemmle NoHo 7 is one of eight locations in the Los Angeles area. Each proudly supports the independent, foreign, and art film scenes. Screenings are often accompanied by a Q&A with filmmakers. Check their site for details! 

 

Idle Hour
4824 Vineland Ave, Los Angeles, CA 91601

Vernacular architecture is when a building is constructed outside of the norm, without much professional help/experience. The Idle Hour cocktail lounge, with its wooden barrel shape, is a prime example of this architectural form.

 

Zombie Joe's Underground Theatre
4850 Lankershim Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 91601

Zombie Joe’s is an underground theater which shows “spooky” plays such as: The Raven, Night Birds, and Lobelia. Check their website for weekend night showings. FYI there will be an 8:30 pm showing of Lobelia on CicLAvia Sunday!

 

Recreation

Chandler Bikeway

The Chandler Bikeway is a ~3 mile long, class one, off-street bike path which can take you from North Hollywood to Burbank. You can access the bike path from the north end of the CicLAmini—North Hollywood route, at the intersection of Lankershim Blvd and Chandler Blvd. From the NoHo starting point, it’ll connect you to the Orange Line Bikeway for another ~18 miles towards Chatsworth.

 

North Hollywood Recreation Center
11430 Chandler Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601

The NoHo Recreation Center keeps the community active with their tennis courts, indoor gym, outdoor pool, skate park, and outdoor hockey rink. Located in the southeast corner of the area you will also find the North Hollywood Amelia Earhart Regional Library.

 

North Hollywood Park
5015 Tujunga Ave, North Hollywood, CA 91601

Across Magnolia Blvd, south of the recreation center, is North Hollywood Park. This ~3 block park is nestled in the lower west side of NoHo and features jogging and biking paths, plenty of open space for picnics, and shade for a relaxing nap. This park also hosts events like the movie and concert series NoHo Summer Nights ending on Sept 9.
