LA weather is cooling down but the free holiday events are heating up. From play readings to sledding, dog adoptions to star parties, there’s plenty to keep you busy as the holiday season continues.
For a thought-provoking play reading and discussion, visit the Robert Louis Stevenson Branch Library at 6 pm for the Center Theatre Group’s Literary Tour. The group will read the play, A Wetback's Christmas (in Spanish and English) by Rubén Amavizca-Murúa and host a bilingual discussion afterward.
Pop by Artisanal LA’s Bunker Hill Holiday Pop Up from 10 am to 5 pm in the Bank of America Building in DTLA for lunch, music, and holiday shopping to support local LA vendors and artisans.
This is your last chance for 2018 to attend Griffith Observatory’s monthly public star party. From 2 pm to 9:45 pm you can get a look at the stars and space junk while enjoying the amazing views of LA. http://griffithobservatory.org/programs/publictelescopes.html#starparties
Go sledding in a Winter Wonderland at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw - Sears Bowl from noon to 4 pm. There will be entertainment and s’mores at this free event sponsored by The City of Los Angeles and Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson. https://www.facebook.com/events/190741531820478/
The holiday season can be tiring. If you’re in need of some rejuvenation, the California African American Museum is hosting an event just for you: Practicing the Art of Radical Self Care. If you just can’t get enough holiday music this time of year, stop by the Holiday Music Jam at the Central Library from 2 pm to 3 pm. This is a BYO instrument (acoustic, voice, etc.) session and all skill levels and ages are welcome to attend. https://calendar.lacity.org/event/holiday-music-jam
Ready to give a dog a forever home (and maybe a snazzy holiday sweater?) Stop by Platform LA in Culver City from 11 am to 1 pm. You’ll find their “magical unicorn” pups in the plaza between the shops waiting to go home with you. http://www.apurposefulrescue.org/events/
