Volunteer FAQ

What do volunteers help with during CicLAvia?

All volunteer opportunities focus on the safety of CicLAvia participants along the route.

Individual volunteers help create a safe and successful CicLAvia for all participants by monitoring event Hubs. Volunteers help slow down participant traffic at dismount zones, gather emails for a free drawing, provide event information to participants, and help staff with event setup and breakdown.

Volunteer groups are assigned a specific intersection or area along the route. Volunteers help guide participant traffic at car crossings, dismount and slow zones, and pedestrian crossings.

Are there volunteer opportunities before or after a CicLAvia event?

Most volunteer opportunities take place on CicLAvia event days, but additional help may be needed before or after an event. From door-to-door outreach to office work, the best way to find out about available opportunities is to sign up for CicLAvia's Volunteer Mailing List.

Are group volunteer opportunities available?

CicLAvia invites community groups of four or more to volunteer through our Adopt-an-Intersection program!

Volunteer groups will be assigned a specific intersection to guide participant traffic at vehicle and pedestrian crossing points as well as dismount and slow zones. Qualified groups are given the opportunity to set up their own table or tent along the route, and engage with the public by playing music, making customized signs, or hosting an interactive activity.

Adopt-An-Intersection group criteria:

  • Groups must represent a community organization (non-profit, school, club, sports league, church, etc.)
  • Volunteers must be 14 years or older
  • Activities hosted by the group, including materials to distribute, must be approved by CicLAvia
  • Groups must volunteer for the duration of the event (from 8:30am to 4:00pm) with a minimum of four volunteers per shift

Is there a minimum age to volunteer?

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to participate.

Volunteer groups between the ages of 14 and 17 must be accompanied by an adult in a one to 15 adult to volunteer ratio.

Do I need to attend an orientation?

CicLAvia will send individual volunteers an introductory document in advance of the event so that you can familiarize yourself with the event and our organization. There will be an on-site volunteer coordinator the day of the event who will assign you a task and answer any questions you may have.

For group volunteersCicLAvia will send your team leader training document with details about your role at CicLAvia. There will be an on-site volunteer captain the day of the event who will give your group an in-person refresher.

How do I sign up to volunteer as an individual?

When available, volunteer opportunities are posted here. To sign up, simply select the Hub and shift(s) you’d like, create an account, and you’re good to go! You may sign up for as many shifts as you’d like. Please note that shifts overlap by 30 minutes, so it’s usually best to stay at one Hub.

You'll receive a confirmation email one week before the event with everything you need to know.

What if I need to change or cancel my volunteer shift?

Contact us! Shifts may be changed up to 72 hours before the event, depending on availability.

Can I bring my pets, kids, or friends with me?

Pets are not allowed on your volunteer shift.

Children under 14 may accompany a parent or guardian who is volunteering as long as they remain under their supervision.

Friends are absolutely allowed! Make it a party and bring your friends along. If possible, please let us know in advance if you plan to bring a friend so we can collect their shirt size.

How do I find out about future volunteer opportunities?

The best way to stay informed of upcoming volunteer opportunities is to join the CicLAvia Volunteer Mailing List. You can sign up here
