On Sunday, July 23rd the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) teamed up with CicLAvia for their “✌️enice Blvd!” event!
This event, powered by CicLAvia, focused on the new bicycle infrastructure located on Venice Blvd between National Blvd and Sepulveda Blvd.
Many local organizations hosted free activities during the event.
Walk n Rollers taught a skills course for kids (and adults!) on the safety of biking around the city.
People for Mobility Justice (PMJ) led guided bike rides on the newly implemented LADOT bike infrastructure along Venice Blvd and to the Ballona Creek Bike Path!
If you wanted to explore the area at an even slower pace, the Palms Neighborhood Council provided walking tours around Culver City discussing the infrastructure, art, and history of the area.
It indeed was a beautiful day for a bike ride! Metro Bike Share showcased their electric and non-electric bikes for people to test ride.
✌️enice Blvd! featured one Hub with arts and crafts, button making, classic games, and a bingo/scavenger hunt for people of all ages to partake in.
The Hub felt like a neighborhood block party for children and adults to enjoy themselves in a fun and safe environment.
Thank you to neighborhood businesses, India Sweets and Spices, Cerveteca, Milla Chocolates, and Stanley’s Wet Goods who had treats ready for those folks who completed their bingo cards during the event.
And special thanks to Topo Chico for keeping us hydrated throughout the day!
While this wasn’t a typical CicLAvia event with entire roads closed off to traffic, LADOT’s commitment to redesigning streets for the comfort and safety of pedestrians and cyclists aligns with our goal to provide safer and more accessible open streets to all. We hope this partnership sets a precedent for prioritizing safety, inspiring further efforts to create safer environments for all road users.
